Is London Overrated? I Went to Find Out (Attraction by Attraction)

Everyone has an opinion on London before they even land. Too touristy. Too expensive. Overhyped. I went in skeptical about a few specific things and came out with some very clear verdicts. Here's my honest scorecard.
Big Ben: Worth it, but manage your expectations. It's iconic, it's impressive to stand in front of — and that's basically it. Don't expect an "experience." I'd call this a quick stop, not a highlight, and that surprised me given how much hype it gets.
Buckingham Palace: Worth it, but only if you time it right. Seeing it is fine. Catching the Changing of the Guard is a completely different level, and it comes down to one specific timing detail most people don't think about until they're already standing there disappointed.
The Tube: Better than its reputation. I expected confusion and delays. Got neither, once I figured out one small habit locals clearly all know and nobody tells you about upfront.
British pubs: Somehow still underrated. I went in thinking this was going to be the most "tourist trap" part of the trip. It was the opposite — genuinely one of the best parts, and I found a specific pub near a very famous fictional address that turned into one of my favorite stops of the entire week.
A certain "hidden gem" bar: The biggest surprise of the whole trip. I won't say the name here, but I found a place with some of the best prices I've seen anywhere in Europe — and I mean by a wide margin. It wasn't in any of the obvious guides. A local pointed me toward it almost as an afterthought, and it ended up being one of my top recommendations for the whole city.
Staying three days: A mistake, not a myth. This isn't hype versus reality — this one's just a fact I learned the hard way. I planned three days. I needed five, easily. There's simply too much city and not nearly enough time if you cut it short.
