If you're looking for a weekend trip that's easy to get to, easy on the wallet, and packed with good food and a little bit of Southern charm, let me tell you about our recent trip to Biloxi, Mississippi.

We packed a full food tour, a couple of casino stops, and a little history into just two days — and it turned out to be one of my favorite trips this year. Here's the rundown.

Where We Stayed: The Scarlet Pearl

We based ourselves at the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort, and I can't recommend it enough. The hotel itself was awesome — comfortable rooms, easy check-in, and the casino floor right downstairs if you're in the mood to try your luck. If you're planning a Biloxi trip, this is a great home base for a weekend.

The Food: Baked Oysters and Blue Crab Claws

Let's be honest — the food was the real star of this trip. We walked to a few different local restaurants around town, and two dishes stood out above everything else:

  • Baked oysters — rich, buttery, and about as fresh as you can get this close to the Gulf

  • Blue crab claws — simple, sweet, and worth every minute of cracking them open yourself

If you're a seafood lover like I am, Biloxi is going to feel like a little bit of heaven. Don't rush through it — take the time to walk between spots and let the trip unfold at its own pace.

A Little Bit of History

Biloxi isn't just casinos and seafood — it's got real history. We stopped at a few spots around the city to learn more about its past, from its Gulf Coast roots to how it grew into the casino town it is today. It added a nice layer to the trip beyond just eating and relaxing.

Is Biloxi Worth a Weekend Trip?

Absolutely. We did this whole trip in a single weekend, and it felt complete — good food, a great place to stay, some history, and a little bit of casino fun. If you're over 50 and looking for a low-stress, high-reward getaway that doesn't require a ton of planning, Biloxi should be on your list.
